After nearly three decades of photographing people, I found myself gradually drawn toward quieter subjects. Spending time in the countryside or by the coast, often on long walks, I became interested in photographing nature, its stillness and the sense of time it holds. They are not about grand landscapes, but about what holds my gaze: the openness of the sea, or the structure of a tree, and how they can take us to another mental space. In these moments, I am less concerned with documenting and more with observing. What draws me back is a feeling of timelessness, of stepping outside the pace of everyday life. Photographing these places becomes a way of staying with that feeling a little longer, and of translating something of it into an image.
